Home?Industry Trends? South Korean automobile and instant noodle exports: Behind the new records
In recent years, the global market landscape and consumer demands have been continuously evolving. As an economically advanced nation with a global perspective, South Koreas export data frequently becomes a focal point for market attention. The latest figures reveal that South Korea has achieved remarkable results in both the automotive and instant noodle sectors, setting new historical records for the same period.
Automobile Exports: Growth Driven by Demand for Eco-Friendly Vehicles
In August, South Koreas automobile exports showed astonishing growth, with a year-on-year increase of 28.7%, primarily fueled by robust global demand for electric vehicles and other eco-friendly cars. Specifically, total automobile exports surged from $4.12 billion in the same period last year to $5.29 billion, marking the highest monthly record for August. This extends South Koreas streak of double-digit year-on-year growth in automobile exports to 14 consecutive months, with the cumulative total for the first eight months of this year reaching an impressive $46.85 billion.
Geographically, North America remains the largest export destination for South Korean automobiles, with sales growing 28.1% year-on-year to $2.59 billion. Exports to the EU, Asia, and the Middle East also demonstrated steady growth.
Particularly noteworthy is the increasingly strong global demand for eco-friendly vehicles. In August, exports of eco-friendly cars reached $1.79 billion, a substantial 47.8% increase year-on-year. This means that nearly one-third of South Korean vehicles sold globally are now eco-friendly models.
Instant Noodle Exports: Second Globally After China
South Korean instant noodles are also gaining popularity worldwide. So far this year, exports of South Korean instant noodles have grown 23.5% year-on-year, reaching $657.3 million—a new historical high for the period.
Trend-wise, global sales of South Korean instant noodles have maintained steady growth since 2015, peaking at $765.43 million in 2022. This positions South Korea as a major player in the global instant noodle market, ranking as the worlds second-largest exporter after China.
Whether in automobiles or instant noodles, South Korea has demonstrated strong competitiveness in global markets. Key factors behind these achievements include its persistent pursuit of environmental sustainability and innovation, coupled with acute responsiveness to global consumer demands. Looking ahead, as global markets evolve and new technologies develop, South Korea has even greater potential for growth in these two sectors.
